Arasavalli Suryanarayana temple, Srikakulam

The Sri Suryanarayana Swamy temple is located in the village of Arasavalli in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh. This village is famous for its Sri Suryanarayana Swamy temple. This temple is famous among the lord Surya temples. It is a famous temple n Uttarandhra. 

It is the oldest sun temple in India. According to the Padma Purana, there is proof that Kashyapa Maharshi installed the idol of this temple for the welfare of the people. Arasavalli is a temple where daily worship os performed to the Sun god.

The Sthala Purana says that this temple, which is called Mahabhaskara kshetra has a very glorious history. 

It is known that the Sri Surya temple in Arasavalli was built by the Kalinga kindom's ruler Devendra Varma, a prominent Eastern Ganga king, in 545 CE. The construction of the Sun temple in Arasavalli was carried out during the ruling period of Devendravarman, one of the Ganga kings. It is known from the writings that Devendravarman appointed Ippili Akkanna and Surappa as priests of the Sun temple in Arasavalli.
